Books that Made into Great Movies

The journey from page to screen is not as easy as it seems. Many have tried: some have succeeded in writing brilliant screenplays while some made fool out of themselves. Below are the few names which in my opinion were amazing adaptations. (For my comments kindly read captions)

1) The shawshank Redemption

Adapted from the Stephen King novella Rita Hayworth and Shaw-shank Redemption, this movie twisted my emotions into a thousand knots and inside out. Despite being a box office flop, this film received outstanding reviews. I seriously love this movie. Eastwood is indeed one of the premiere directors in the business.

2) The Godfather

Godfather
Brilliant cast, excellent story and outstanding direction; these three things pretty much sum it up. Probably the single most important and influential film ever made. I still can’t believe how many people have never seen this movie. A MUST WATCH. God Father features some of the most memorable and quoted lines in mobster movie history.

3) Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump
A really good adaptation, simple yet effective. A movie of a less than ordinary person who lives an extraordinary life.

4) LOTR Trilogy

An adaptation that went far beyond anyone’s expectations. Calling it "One of the best trilogies ever made" would also be an understatement. It only makes sense for this film to be on the top of the list. One of my all time favorites, I call it the greatest all around achievement in film history.

5) The Great Gatsby

This film holds a special place in the hearts of a lot of people. Nothing short of pure magic, one of the most beautiful movies ever made in the genre of romance. I still don’t really understand why DiCaprio didn't get an Oscar for his performance in this. One of my favorite endings to a film.

6) Memento

The movie that put Christopher Nolan on the map for people. What an amazing screenplay! Absolute brilliance.

7) Gone With The Wind

What an interesting character Scarlet O' Hara was! It was a treat to watch this classic act out by such talented people in an absolutely brilliant way.

Don’t worry I have yet to watch To Kill a Mocking Bird, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, Fight Club and other outstanding adaptations. Feel free to recommend some!

P.s For Potterheads, I know it was a brilliant series but, trust me, Rowling was better at her job as compared to the screenplay writers.
